Lachon "Scooter " Nichols

Coach Lachon “Scooter” Nichols is the CEO and Founder of God’s Gift 2 Sports.  With 20 years of experience in training, coaching, and teaching basketball.  Lachon has trained and taught hundreds of young men and women in the game of basketball.  Before this role, Lachon played basketball in elementary and high school.  His love for the game drove him to become a student of the game.  This passion was the driving force for him to become a trainer and coach.  His success and relationships he has built over the years as a coach has led him the opportunity to run his own program and serve his calling at the same time.   In his spare time, Lachon loves to train kids of all ages, exercise, watch sports, and share precious moments with his family.

Coach Ron Harris

Coach Ron Harris, Co-founder of God’s Gift 2 Sports, has been coaching youth basketball for over 10 years.  Ron has not only helped to lead the organization, but he has also coached (GG2S) teams since its beginning over 7 years ago.  Coach Ron is a product of the Chicago Public School (CPS) system and alumni of the City Colleges of Chicago.  An AAU certified coach.  Coach Ron has taught and mentored many through coaching and through his role as a Deacon at Victory Apostolic Church in Matteson, IL.  Ron serves as the Chief Operating Officer, whose responsibilities include organizational structure, planning, and scheduling in addition to assisting in coaching the 7th/8th grade and high school teams.  His mission has always been to develop young people into leaders with integrity and character, along with increasing their athletic skill set.

Coach Percy Scott

Percy is in his 2nd year with God’s Gift 2 Sports. As a standout student athlete at Chicago’s Richards High School, Percy beat the odds and received a football scholarship to Illinois State University in 1993. Upon completion he began his career at State Farm as a fire claims representative while playing professional football in the Arena League for the Peoria Pirates.  Percy moved back to Chicago to be closer to family. In 2012 he founded Global 360 Marketing, a dynamic full-service media agency.  He is a member of Victory Apostolic Church where he has coached 1st-6th grade baseball and basketball for the past 7 years.  Percy will coach the elementary school grade levels.

Coach Lester Coney

Coach Lester Coney has been coaching 6 years with God’s Gift 2 Sports (GG2S) and has been coaching with Victory Apostolic Church youth basketball since 2011.  Coach Lester is a member of Bethlehem Temple MB Church since 1999.  Coach Lester is also a Minister at Bethlehem Temple since 2002 and ordained since 2015.  Coach Lester graduated from Lindblom Tech HS in Chicago, IL and graduated from Governors State University in University Park, IL.  Coach Lester is also a member Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Epsilon Chi Chapter at Illinois State University, Normal, IL.  Coach Lester is an IT Support Analyst at the University of Illinois Hospital, Health Information Management (HIM) Department.  Coach Lester is a blessed married man with 4 beautiful and awesome children.  Coach Lester loves basketball and loves helping young teens develop a greater knowledge of God and basketball.  Lester will coach the H.S. level teams.

Coach Sammie Bures

Coach Sammie Bures is in his 3rd year coaching with God’s Gift 2 Sports (GG2S) and has been coaching with Victory Apostolic Thunder youth basketball since 2008.  Coach Sammie is a member of Victory Apostolic Church in Matteson, IL since 2007.  Coach Sammie attended Rich South High School in Richton Park, IL and Southern Illinois University (SIU) in Carbondale, IL.  Coach Sammie is married and has 5 beautiful and awesome children.  Coach Sammie is a Registered Investment Representative for Strategize Wealth Management Group in Matteson, IL 60443.  

Coach Jeff White

Coach Jeffrey White is in his 3rd year of coaching with God’s Gift 2 Sports.  He was a 1985 graduate of Lindblom Tech HS and attended Daley College for 2 yrs. as a Finance major. Coach Jeff is retired from the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) with 26 yrs. of service as a Senior Manager of the Control Center, following his retirement he started a Rail Operations Consulting firm with his brother Greg called “Legacy Rail Operation”. Coach Jeff has been a member of Victory Apostolic Church since 2015 where he has joined the Usher Board Ministries, PADS for the Homeless, and a Volunteer Basket Coach for the past 2 yrs. His hobbies are watching, playing, and coaching sports ie. basketball and baseball, but his true love is basketball. His coaching career started in 2000 where he coached all levels at St. Columbus Catholic School for 5 yrs. from Kindergarten to 8th grade. His most notable players were his son Marcus, and NBA star Anthony Davis. From there he coached at 2 camps, Kansas University for 2 yrs. (2003 & 2004) and Adidas Phenom Camp in San Diego California for 2 yrs. (2005 & 2006). He took a break from the game to watch his son play high school basketball at De La Salle and to watch him play Division 1 college basketball at UIC, but the love of the game was still there. So in 2017 Coach Jeff was extremely fortunate enough to become one of the coaches of a great up and coming AAU basketball program called “God’s Gift 2 Sports” where there is the best talent in the south suburbs, lead by founder Lachon Nichols. Coach Jeff assisted on all levels from 3rd grade to high school., but it was the high school level that he got the opportunity to lead that team to 2 tournament victories over the summer. The confidence and trust given to him was the greatest moment of his coaching career. Entering into his 3rd year with “God’s Gift”, and the growth of this program has made his “Love of the game” everlasting. Coach Jeff is married to a wonderful wife Yolanda of 26 yrs. with twin adult children Marcus & Mariah.  

Coach Flenory "Junior" Barnes

Coach Flenory “Junior” Barnes is in his 3rd year of coaching with God’s Gift 2 Sports, but he has been coaching for 6 years in the Matteson league. Coach Junior played basketball at Mount Carmel HS, Chicago, IL and Blackhawk Jr College, Moline, IL. He attends New Faith Church in Matteson, IL for the last 4 years and works for the Department of Water Management. Coach Junior is married and has 3 wonderful and vibrant children.
